Saskatoon Goldfins Shine at Regina Winter Classic: A Weekend of Record-Breaking Achievements

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club made a remarkable splash at the Regina Winter Classic, held from January 16 to 18, 2026, in Regina, SK. Seventy Goldfins swimmers participated in this exhilarating long course meet, with several experiencing their first taste of long course competition.

Among the highlights was the extraordinary performance of An Nguyen, whose record-breaking feats stood out. An shattered the Girls Provincial 10 & Under Long Course record in the 50M Breaststroke, clocking in at 40.27 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 40.51 seconds set back in March 2017. Furthermore, An elevated her own Goldfins Girls 10 & Under Long Course Club records for both the 50M and 100M Breaststroke, setting a new mark of 1:29.51 in the latter—an achievement that builds on her previous records from July 2025.
In addition to these record-setting performances, several swimmers achieved their first Provincial Championships Qualifying Time Standards. Notable new Junior Provincial Qualifiers include Luka Fehr in the 200M Breaststroke (3:42.34), Rhett Ruzesky in the 50M (37.58) and in the 100M Freestyle (1:20.69), and Jackson LaBine in the 50M Backstroke (43.70). Furthermore, the Goldfins welcomed two new members to the Senior Provincial Teams: Ella Reiter with a 50M Freestyle time of 33.23 seconds and Hudson St. Amant at 30.95 seconds in the same event.

The club's collective efforts resulted in an impressive 125 new long course provincial time standards and a remarkable 439 personal best long course times. The dedication and hard work of the swimmers were evident, with swimmers achieving 100% personal best times: Kiarash Aminaie, Ethan Andre, Lennox Armstrong, Addie Bartlett, Evelyn Bourassa, Victoria Dickson, Luka Fehr, Zeyah Flemming, Elsa Fletcher, Bronwen Friggstad, Leo Genest, Miller Gotto, Summer Grajo, Gillian Grayston, Zoe Gurksy, Leilani Hitchings, Ariah Kent-Rodgman, Charlotte Koroll, Jackson LaBine, Jasper Ledingham-Off, Oliver Ledingham-Off, Kyle MacGillivray, Max Magsuci, Elliotte Mah, Zoey Painchaud, John Preiss, Alex Sothilngam, Will Sothilingam, Heimarie Strydom, Abigail Takagi, Piper Veikle, Emily Walton-Bailey, Brette White, and Daktota Wigness. is a testament to their commitment and competitive spirit.
The top three most improved events showcased astounding progress, particularly by Jackson LaBine, who improved his 50M Breaststroke time by an impressive 35.5% (-31.73 seconds), and Hudson St. Amant, who demonstrated significant advancements in both the 50M Freestyle (30.4% improvement, -13.50 seconds) and the 50M Backstroke (28.7% improvement, -14.73 seconds).
