Saskatoon Goldfins Gain Experience at 2026 Best of the West Fest Canadian Championships

WINNIPEG, MB – The Saskatoon Goldfins made waves at the 2026 Best of the West Fest Canadian Championships from April 23 to 26, showcasing their talent and determination. The spirited squad of 14 swimmers demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, leaving a lasting impression on the competition.

Among their many triumphs, young swimming star Abigail Gauld set the pool alight with her record-breaking performance in the Girls 11-12 Long Course 100M Breaststroke. Abigail surpassed a longstanding Swim Saskatchewan record set in January 1993 by Bekki Seaman, clocking in a personal best of 1:19.37. This not only shattered the previous record but also surpassed the Goldfins' own club record, previously held by Naomi Liu.

 

 

The Goldfins collective effort culminated in a commendable 94 total points, with 88 from individual events and an additional 6 from relay races. Leading the charge in points were Isabel Magus with 28, Carson Sereda-Wosminity with 25, and Avery Houle with 23, each contributing significantly to the team's success.

Showcasing remarkable progress, Oliver Wruck, and James DeLathouwer stood out with impressive personal improvements in their events. Oliver achieved a 4.8% improvement in the 50 Backstroke, while James marked a notable advancement in both the 100 Backstroke (4.3%) and 50 Freestyle (4.2%).

Adding to the excitement, James DeLathouwer also secured a new time standard for the prestigious 2026 Mel Zajac International in the 50M Freestyle, setting the stage for more thrilling performances to come.

 

As the Goldfins turn their focus to future competitions, they eagerly anticipate hosting the Championships in Saskatoon in April 2027. Their next challenge awaits at the 2026 Killarney Long Course Invitational in Calgary, from May 1 to 3.
