Record-Breaking Performances at the Goldfins Winter Whiteout

The Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club hosted the 2025 Goldfins Winter Whiteout from January 31 to February 2, 2025, at the Shaw Centre in Saskatoon, SK. The event was a grand success, featuring 12 teams from across Saskatchewan and over 280 athletes who competed in more than 1900 individual events and 54 relay events. The home team, Goldfins Swim Club, proudly showcased the talent of 100 swimmers who participated in over 700 events throughout the weekend.

 

 

Record-Breaking Performances

The meet witnessed several record-breaking performances. Among the standout achievements were:

  • Miller Gotto: The young swimmer set new records in the Girls 10 & Under category for the 50M Backstroke, clocking 37.04 in the prelims and an impressive 36.88 in the finals. This performance improved her own previous record of 37.54 set during the 48th Goldfins Invitational in November 2024.
  • An Nguyen: She broke the record in the 50M Breaststroke with a time of 43.24, surpassing the previous joint record held by Ridley Burwell (2016) and Kyla Butterworth (November 2024) of 43.43.
  • Girls 11-12 400M Medley Relay Team: Comprised of Naomi Liu, Abigail Gauld, Sadie Burrows, and Ava Gursky, the team set a new short course record with a time of 5:03.44. They broke the longstanding record from November 2002 set by former Goldfins swimmers Khristine Feraro, Natalie Brandt, Keira Minielly, and Rikia Trischuk, who had a time of 5:16.92.

The Goldfins swimmers collectively achieved 525 personal best short course times. Remarkably, 20 Goldfins swimmers posted 100% personal best times, including:

New Qualifiers for Upcoming Championships

The club is thrilled to announce new additions to their Senior Provincial Team, preparing for the 2025 Man/SK Short Course Provincial Championships in March 2025. Noteworthy qualifiers include:

  • Kamlyn Dyck: Achieved her first qualifying time in the 1500M Freestyle with a time of 20:24.18.
  • Farrah Aitken: Posted her first qualifying time in the 50M Backstroke with a time of 39.61.
  • Zahra Gokavi Bailey: Re-qualified in the 50M Breaststroke with a time of 38.22.
