Making Waves in Winter - The Saskatoon Goldfins Take on Prairie Winter International

As the chill of December descends, the Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club is gearing up to make waves at the Prairie Winter International Swim Meet, set to take place from December 11 to 14, 2025, at the Pan Am Pool in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This vibrant event promises to be an exhilarating showcase of talent, bringing together 19 teams with over 450 swimmers contesting 18 individual events and two thrilling relay races. The Goldfins Swim Team, under the guidance of Head Coach Gary Cheung and his dedicated coaching staff, embodies this determination and readiness.
“Our swimmers have put in weeks of hard work since September, and PWI in Winnipeg is where they finally get to see that pay off,” states Coach Cheung. This statement not only highlights the dedication of the athletes but also underscores the enthusiasm shared by their mentors. “The coaches including myself are excited to watch them swim fast and rise to the challenge.”
Such excitement is not unfounded; swimmers have been honing their skills and refining their techniques, fully aware that this meet offers an opportunity to showcase their progress in a competitive environment. The PWI meet, therefore, stands as a testament to the diversity of experiences and abilities within the team, reflecting their commitment to excellence and the supportive environment fostered by their coaches. As the meet unfolds, the anticipation is palpable, and the stage is set for impressive performances.
The Goldfins are proudly sending a formidable team of 51 swimmers, who will compete in an impressive 355 individual events and 16 relays, adding a splash of excitement to the competition. With such a strong representation, the Goldfins are ready to demonstrate their prowess in the pool.
Meet Schedule Highlights:
Thursday, December 11, 2025 – Timed Finals: Starting at 4:30 PM, featuring the endurance-testing 800M and 1500M Freestyle, along with the swift 50M Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Fly.
Friday, December 12, 2025 – Prelims & Finals: Kicking off at 8:30 AM with finals at 5:30 PM, swimmers will compete in the 200M Freestyle, 400M Individual Medley, 100M Breaststroke, 100M Individual Medley, and the dynamic 4 X 50M Freestyle Relay.
Saturday, December 13, 2025 – Prelims & Finals: Again starting at 8:30 AM with finals at 5:30 PM, featuring the 200M Breaststroke, 200M Fly, 400M Freestyle, 50M Freestyle, 100M Backstroke, and the exhilarating 4 X 50M Medley Relay.
Sunday, December 14, 2025 – Prelims & Finals: The final day begins at 8:30 AM with finals at 5:00 PM, including the 200M Individual Medley, 100M Fly, 200M Backstroke, and 100M Freestyle.
