Goldfins Swimmers Shine at the Craven SPORT Series Racing Series #4

On Saturday, April 29, 2024 the Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club hosted the finale of the 2024 Craven Services Racing Series – Shaw Centre, Saskatoon, SK.  The Goldfins were pleased to host three Saskatchewan Clubs: Swift Current Barracudas, Meadow Lake Stingrays and the Battleford Kinsmen Orcas.  In addition to the 114 age group athletes, the Goldfins hosted 20 Masters swimmers representing the Swift Current Barracudas Masters and the Goldfins Masters Swim Club.

 

 

Age Group swimmers competed in 5 individual events and in 1 relay event.  Swimmers raced to come out top in their age group as they attempted to post personal best short course times showing their improved strokes and skills.  Swimmers who had competed in each of the four-racing series held this season, were eligible to compete for the Top Age Group awards.  Swimmers were ranked based on their World Aquatic Point standings/event.

Goldfins swimmers who ranked in the Top 3 for their age groups were as follows:

Girls 8 & Under: Carlin Armstrong – 1st, Zeyah Flemming – 3rd

Girls 9 – 10: Kyla Butterworth – 1st, Gillian Grayston – 2nd, Zoe Gursky – 3rd

Girls 11 & Over: Hannah Larson – 1st

Boys 8 & Under: Ty Fehr – 1st, Jasper Ledingham-Off – 2nd

Boys 9 – 10: Jacob Findlay – 1st, Lucas Tse – 2nd, Alex Kovalenko – 3rd

Boys 11 & Over: Youssef Barakat – 2nd, Hayden Zimmer – 3rd

The Goldfins had 80 swimmers compete in the Craven SPORT Services Racing Series #4.  The Goldfins swimmers posted 168 personal short course best times.  The Goldfins were proud to have thirty swimmers post 100% personal best times.

17 Goldfins Masters participated in the Craven Sport Racing Masters Series #4 on April 27, 2024, in Saskatoon. During the event, our Masters achieved 19 personal best times.

 

  • Denise Gilewicz set a SCM Provincial record in the 60-64 age group for the 400M Freestyle with a time of 6:08.95.
  • Darcy Pawlik broke three SCM Provincial records in the 45-49 age category: 50M Fly (30.52), 100M Freestyle (1:00.35), and 400M Freestyle (4:59.00).
  • John Rayner also set two SCM Provincial records in the 60-64 age group: 50M Backstroke (39.37) and 50M Butterfly (34.70).

 

 

 

At the Alberta Masters Provincials Championships on April 27-28, 2024, in Okotoks, Peter Doig, a Goldfins Masters swimmer, broke five SCM Provincial records in the 65-69 age category: 200M Backstroke (3:14.19), 50M Breaststroke (39.85), 100M Butterfly (1:19.23), 100M IM (1:17.47), and 200M IM (2:57.17).

Congratulations to Peter for his outstanding performance at the event, achieving several podium finishes.
