Excitement Builds for the 2025 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials

June 6, 2025

The anticipation for the 2025 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials is palpable as athletes from across the nation prepare to compete from June 7 to 12 in Victoria, B.C. Among the talented swimmers is Abby Gebhardt, a senior swimmer for the Saskatoon Goldfins, who is eager to test her skills against fellow competitors.

Abby Gebhardt's Reflections

Abby Gebhardt, who has been sharpening her skills under the Saskatoon Goldfins cap this summer, shared her enthusiasm about participating in the prestigious event. "I am excited to compete in this competition," she expressed. "I am looking forward to competing against my varsity swim team members from the Calgary Dinos."

Returning to her roots for the summer, Abby is set to rejoin the University of Calgary swimming program later this year. However, her immediate focus is on achieving a new U SPORT qualifying time standard at the trials. "I have never competed in Victoria prior to this competition," Abby remarked, "therefore it should bring an added level of excitement as I step up on the blocks."

Events and Aspirations

Abby will showcase her talents in the 100M Breaststroke and the 50M Breaststroke events. With her eyes set on personal bests and the thrill of competing in a new venue, Abby is poised to make her mark at the trials. Her dedication and determination are sure to inspire fellow athletes and spectators alike as the trials unfold in the beautiful city of Victoria.

Athletes Competing for a Chance to Represent Canada

Athletes hailing from nine provinces and 148 clubs will compete for the chance to represent Canada on the global stage. The Trials promise a mix of seasoned leadership and emerging talents. Returning Olympians, Paralympians, and junior prospects will aim to secure their spots for one of four major international competitions for which Swimming Canada is selecting teams:

  • World Aquatics Championships
    • Pool events: July 26 – August 3 in Singapore
  • 2025 FISU Games (Summer Universiade)
    • July 17 – 23 in Berlin
  • World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships
    • August 19 – 24 in Otopeni, Romania
  • World Para Swimming Championships
    • September 21 – 27 in Singapore

Canadian Swimming Trials: A Thrilling Showcase of Talent

“The Canadian Swimming Trials is an exhilarating swim meet that gathers the top senior and junior swimmers from all over Canada to compete at their highest level,” stated Steven Hitchings, Head Coach of the Saskatoon Goldfins Swim Club. “This year, we have six Goldfins participating, all of whom have been training with a clear intention to perform their best over the next six days. Unlike any other meet, the Trials require swimmers to be in peak condition for an entire week of racing. The athletes attending have dedicated countless hours in practice to prepare for this event. I am thrilled to guide everyone through this remarkable experience.”
