A weekend of Speed, Spirit and Smile: Goldfins Masters Shine at 2025 Speedo Canadian Masters Championships

The Saskatoon Goldfins Masters Swim Club made waves literally and figuratively as they proudly co-hosted the 2025 Speedo Canadian Masters Swimming Championships alongside Swimming Canada from May 16–18. The event opened with a powerful Blessing of the Water ceremony led by members of the local Treaty 6 Indigenous community, grounding the weekend in respect, tradition, and connection to the land and water. Following this, Goldfins Masters swimmer Ava Norman delivered a beautiful performance of “O Canada”, setting the tone for a weekend full of inspiration, pride, and unity. With the stands packed and the energy electric, this wasn’t just about fast swimming, but it was also about fun, friendship, and the unbeatable Masters spirit.

Over 470 athletes dove in from across Canada, the U.S., and the U.K. competing in six sessions of exhilarating races. While medals were earned and records were shattered, the strongest current was the camaraderie that flowed through the deck all weekend long.

This marked the second time the Goldfins Masters hosted Nationals, last seen in 2002 under the Saskatoon Masters Swim Club at Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre.

The Goldfins Masters didn’t just show up, they dominated by bringing home an incredible 66 gold medals, 62 silver medals and 53 bronze medals. And that’s not all, out team set a staggering 37 individual Masters Provincial Records, 20 Relay Provincial Records and 1 Masters Canadian Record.

Individual Highlights

Kendra Chernoff was unstoppable, taking home 6 golds in the 50 Fly, 100 Back, 100 Fly, 100 Free, 400 IM, and 200 Fly. She also broke 3 provincial records, and lowered her own Canadian Masters record in the 100 Fly (30–34 category) by 0.10 seconds! But Kendra wasn’t just winning on her own, she jumped into eight relays over the weekend, helping her teammates bring home five more golds and a silver.

Brooke Davidson matched that golden streak with 6 individual wins in the 100 IM, 50 Fly, 100 Back, 200 Back, 200 IM, and 50 Back. She cracked 3 provincial records, including relay lead-off in women 4x50 medley relay that set the pace for her team. She also helped her team winnin 2 golds in women 4x50 medley and 4x50 freestyle relays.

Braedon Newton continued the Goldfins gold rush with 6 golds and 5 provincial records, showing his range in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and IM. His 50 Back lead-off in the Men’s 4x50 Medley Relay also earned a provincial mark. Braedon also won 5 golds alongside his teammates in Mixed 4x50 medley, Men 4x100 free, 4x50 free, 4x100 medley, 4x50 medley and 1 silver in Mixed 4x50 free relays.

Darcy Pawlik led by example in the 45–49 category, collecting 6 individual provincial records across 200 & 800 freestyle, 50 & 200 backstroke and 200 IM events, he broke the 100 backstroke provincial record as the lead-off in the Mixed 4x100 Medley Relay.

Chad Hankewich was hot on his heels, breaking 5 provincial records in a stellar campaign that included 100, 200 & 400 freestyle, 50 & 100 butterfly. He and his teammates also captured 3 golds in Mixed 4x50 medley, Men 4x100 free and mixed 4x100 free relay, while also took home 2 more silver medals in Men 4x100 medley and 4x50 medley relay events.

The Goldfins Masters wrapped up the weekend with an impressive second-place finish overall, scoring 2987.5 points out of 79 clubs across the nation, while the Regina Masters Swim Club, who claimed the Team Banner with 4505 points.
